Project Brief Chicago-based Beyondmedia Education's Women + Prison programming supports formerly incarcerated women and their families, providing a voice for their stories through the arts and engaging their issues and experiences to create opportunities for dialogue, healing, and community organizing. Project Synopsis "Writers' Block" is a zine that makes visible women's experiences in the criminal justice system. Documenting these stories is integral to this project of resistance. The stories are supported by a collection of resources, such as organizations, reports, essays, and a wide range of information on women and prison. In addition to a 33-page two-color zine, hand-screened posters and postcards were also produced. All work shown is a collaboration between myself, Camp Firebelly (2008), and Firebelly Design. |
